Mud Cake Animal Madness
I don’t know about you but those chocolate mud cakes from the supermarket just make me happy. They’re so moist, rich and you can buy 10 and not break the bank. But my favourite thing about them is that they can be transformed into something special in no time at all which means it's great for those who've left the party planning to the very last micro second.
I’ve seen plenty of wonderful mud cake hacks in the past, but here’s my version. To decorate the cake I’m using some of our party animal accessories from the shop. If this is a last minute project for you (and there's no time to order decorations), look in your kid's toy box for any animal figures, wash them since they'll be in contact with food and off you go.
What you’ll need
- 2x supermarket (Coles or Woolworths) mudcakes
- 300ml thickened cream
- Sprinkles
Steps
- Using a breadknife or spoon, scrape off the icing from both mud cakes. Place the frosting in a bowl.
- Cut the tops off the mud cakes so you end up with a flat top on both.
- Take the bowl of icing and spread onto the top of one of the mud cakes
- Place the thickened cream in a large bowl and with an electric mixer whip until soft peaks form.
- Take a third of the whipped cream and spread on top of the mud cake with icing.
- Take the other mud cake, flip upside down and place on top of the mud cake with whipped cream (like a sandwich).
- Take the rest of the whipped cream and spread on the side then top of the mud cake. Add sprinkles.
- Place your decorations on the cake
